As we prepare to welcome another dynamic first-year class in August 2024, we're excited about the prospect of having your knowledge and care to support our students as they settle into life at Willamette. Our assessment data consistently highlights the crucial role Campus Partners play in our students' success and well-being.
Description of the First Year Experience:
Each incoming student enrolls in a College Colloquium class (CC), a seminar which introduces them to academic life at Willamette; these student cohorts also participate together in CHASE (Community-building, Health, and Academic Success Experience), a weekly class which helps students navigate the university experience as a whole. Each group is assigned a Campus Partner (a staff member) and a Colloquium Associate (a student mentor) who facilitate the CHASE sessions and encourage students to engage more broadly on campus.
CHASE covers a broad range of topics including personal values, time management, class registration, communicating across differences, and overall wellness. While this programming has been developed by people with expertise in these specific areas, Campus Partners and Colloquium Associates bring their own unique experiences to the conversations.
Information on the Campus Partner (CP) Role:
Typically, the time commitment for this role ranges from 1-2 hours per week. CPs are expected to attend a weekly 50-minute class with students on Thursdays (11:20 a.m.–12:10 p.m. OR 12:10 p.m.–1:00 p.m.) for the fall semester. It’s worth noting that we plan to incorporate more ‘‘all together” CHASE classes this year. Last fall, we had 3 “all together” classes, and they were a success. Part of the CP role will be to assist with the CHASE content roughly 5-10 minutes per CHASE class. Campus Partners may hold virtual office hours (or invite students to office hours you already hold) and interact informally with students.
How to apply:
If you're interested, we'd love to have you on board! And if you know someone else who might make a great CP, feel free to send them our way. We're gearing up for 37 Colloquium courses this fall!
