Alumna Bukola Koiki Featured in American Craft

Congratulations to MFA in Applied Craft + Design alumna, Bukola Koiki, who is interviewed in the October/November issue of American Craft as one of the American Craft Council Emerging Voices Award Winners.

Koiki's practice combines textile art with research exploring memory, dislocation, and cultural hybridity. Specifically, the Nigerian-born Koiki is grounding work in research the craft histories of Nigeria and Western Africa and around "the factors that led to Nigeria becoming a colonized country," while working to know her ancestors and thus herself. She points to grad school as being the place where her eyes were opened to her own experience of framing fibers in a Western context that erased or appropriated Indigenous knowledge and history.
