UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCEMENT
Dear Willamette community,
Willamette University is committed to supporting survivors of sexual assault and fostering a campus community free of violence, harassment and discrimination.
As you may be aware, on Friday, Nov. 16, the U.S. Department of Education released draft Title IX rules which may change how colleges and universities handle sexual misconduct cases. The final rules will be released after the 60-day comment period has elapsed.
We do not yet know all of the implications these changes have for our campus. We do know compliance with all applicable federal laws, rules and regulations is required for accreditation as well as the university’s eligibility to receive federal funds, including federal financial aid for students such as Pell Grants.
Once the final Title IX rules are released, our broadly-representative campus Title IX committee, together with university legal counsel, will work to determine what adjustments, if any, need to be made to our policies and procedures so Willamette stays in compliance. Any changes made will be shared widely with the campus community.
