The Willamette University faculty have endorsed revised guidelines for students wishing to transfer college credits earned during high school. Students may now transfer up to one year of college credit upon admission. Willamette is one of a few private institutions in Oregon to offer such a program.
In addition, credits earned from concurrent courses — those that count toward students’ high-school graduation requirements and college credit — may transfer to Willamette under the new guidelines. The faculty determined that these courses are similar to Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) credits, which Willamette currently accepts. Students may elect to transfer up to two semesters of credit through this change.
“Willamette prioritizes access and affordability for students,” said Jeremy Bogan, vice president and dean of admission. “These newly revised transfer guidelines allow high-achieving students who jump-started their college experience in high school the opportunity to apply even more credits toward their requirements at Willamette.”
The new program expands access for current Willamette applicants who earn such credits. The guidelines benefit students in concurrent courses from across the country and especially students in Running Start programs from Washington, Hawaii and Illinois.
Students, families and counselors with questions about the program are encouraged to contact the Office of Admission at bearcat@willamette.edu or 503-370-6303.
