Nine faculty receive tenure, promotion

In recognition of their teaching excellence, scholarly or creative accomplishment, and university and community service, nine faculty members have been approved for tenure and/or promotion by President Steve Thorsett and the Board of Trustees.

Tenured and promoted to associate professor

Danielle Deulen, English

Associate Professor Danielle Deulen

Deulen, a poet, essayist and author of three full-length collections and a chapbook, teaches courses in creative writing and and creative nonfiction.

Melissa Marks, Biology

Associate Professor Melissa Marks

Marks conducts research into the genetics, ecology, and evolution in populations of aquatic bacteria (Caulobacter crescentus).

Robert Walker, Quantitative Methods

Professor Robert Walker

Walker, associate professor from the Atkinson Graduate School of Management, teaches statistics, which he sees as a crucial tool for helping modern managers make informed decisions.

Promoted to full professor

Bobby Brewer-Wallin, Theater

Professor Bobby Brewer-Wallin

Brewer-Wallin designs costumes for theatre, dance, television and film, and teaches courses in costume design and costume history.

Ricardo De Mambro Santos, Art History

Professor Ricardo De Mambro Santos

De Mambro Santos, an expert in Italian and European Renaissance and mannerism, has curated and organized important exhibitions at galleries overseas and at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art.

Josh Laison, Mathematics

Professor Josh Laison

Laison teaches courses in mathematics, calculus, statistics, algebra, graph theory and game design, and has mentored more than 20 research projects with undergraduate students.

Erin McNicholas, Mathematics

Professor Erin McNicholas

McNicholas teaches courses including calculus, the history of mathematics, number theory and cryptography, and conducts research on representation theory, algebraic voting theory, algebraic graph theory, spectral graph theory and cryptography.

Scott Pike, Environmental & Earth Sciences

Professor Scott Pike

Pike is a trained geologist and archaeologist whose research includes the Neolithic site of the Ness of Brodgar in Orkney, Scotland, where he leads an annual field school for Willamette students.

Ivan Welty, Philosophy

Welty teaches courses in philosophy and metaphysics.
