Traffic Congestion around the Capitol Saturday

Contact: Campus Safety

On Saturday, April 5th, from 12–3 p.m., a rally at the Capitol may cause traffic congestion

This Saturday, April 5, from 12 p.m.–3 p.m. a protest rally titled "Hands Off!" will be held at Capitol Mall Park (Center St NE & Summer St NE) in Salem. This demonstration is part of a nationwide movement opposing recent actions by the federal administration, with similar rallies planned across the country.

Organized by a coalition including 50501, Salem Indivisible, MoveOn.org, and Rise & Resist, the event is expected to draw between 1,500 and 2,000 participants. However, turnout may vary due to decentralized organizing and additional rallies in nearby cities.

No known counter-protests have been reported, but a heightened law enforcement presence from Salem Police and Oregon State Police will be in place. The event overlaps with the Salem Saturday Market (9 a.m.–2 p.m.) nearby, which could further increase foot traffic and attendance in the area.

Please plan accordingly for potential traffic disruptions and increased activity in the Capitol area on Saturday.

For any safety concerns or questions, please contact Campus Safety.
