Dear Willamette community,
Tomorrow, Feb. 1, is Willamette Day, a celebration of Willamette University's 183rd birthday and the annual occasion for us to reflect on our history, our accomplishments, and our future. Willamette Day is a moment to honor the bold vision that established Willamette University as a place of transformation and possibility. Our motto, Non nobis solum nati sumus — Not unto ourselves alone are we born — continues to guide us as we adapt and evolve to meet the needs of our ever-changing world.
Since Feb. 1 falls on a Saturday this year, and since I hate to miss out on an opportunity to eat cake, let's celebrate Willamette Day together. Today (Friday, Jan. 31), I invite you to enjoy some birthday cake at various locations across both the Salem and PNCA campuses.
To commemorate the occasion, remember to "wear Willamette" (wear Willamette colors or Willamette/PNCA logo items) as an affirmation of our commitment to our institution and our cherished and enduring motto.
As we enjoy this moment together, let's reflect on our remarkable journey and recommit ourselves to the vital mission that has defined Willamette for nearly two centuries.
Happy birthday to us!
Sincerely,
Steve
P.S. Did I mention there's cake?
