A day to celebrate the resilience, achievements, and groundbreaking spirit of students who are the first in their families to attend college or are not familiar with the U.S. higher education system.

First-Generation College Student Celebration Day is a day to celebrate the resilience, achievements, and groundbreaking spirit of students who are the first in their families to attend college or are not familiar with the U.S. higher education system.

Since the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) and the Center for First-generation Student Success launched the inaugural celebration in 2017, hundreds of higher education institutions, corporations, non-profits, and K-12 schools have joined together in recognizing the achievements of the first generation college student (first-gen) community on and around November 8. Through this celebration, we aim to raise awareness about the experiences of first-generation college students, build a supportive community, and continue to create resources and policies that enhance their college experience as they go through the motions of matriculation.

The Office of Intercultural Engagement & Inclusion invites our first generation college student community to celebrate on November 20th from 11:30am-1pm in the E&E. Staff and faculty are also welcome to attend. Please bring your lunch, refreshments will be provided. We hope to see you there!
