Office Spotlight - Bishop Wellness Center

Contact: Don Thomson

Here is a reminder about the many services available to students at the Bishop Wellness Center.

General Information

  • All students in all of Willamette’s schools, regardless of insurance, can access Bishop Wellness Center.  You do not have to purchase the school insurance to come to Bishop.
  • There are no co-pay or office visit fees. There are charges for medications, labs, etc.
  • Student privacy is protected.  Student health records at Bishop are separate from any other records on campus.
  • We have a relaxing “Mind Spa” with two leather massage chairs and full spectrum light that is free to use.
  • We have a free “Self-Care Area” with cough drops, Tylenol, neosporin, condoms, thermometers, etc.

Health Services

  • We are staffed by a Nurse Practitioner and Medical Assistant and operate like a typical primary care office.  We see students for coughs, colds, flu, injuries, sexual and reproductive health, and urgent care, among other issues.  We offer in person and telehealth appointments.
  • We can write prescriptions and send the prescription to a local pharmacy of your choice. We are able to dispense a small number of prescriptions in house for things like strep throat, urinary tract infections, skin infections, and some STI infections.
  • We are able to provide continuation of gender affirming medications once on a stable regimen.
  • New sexual and reproductive health offerings include the Liletta IUD, Nexplanon implant for contraception, and PrEP
  • We emphasize prevention and treatment of many chronic conditions utilizing the 6 pillars of lifestyle medicine (sleep, nutrition, physical activity, social connection, stress management, and limiting harmful substances)
  • Flu shots are available.

Counseling Services

  • We offer free and confidential counseling by licensed mental health providers.
  • There are no formal session limits, but we are a good option if students need to be seen once every 2-3 weeks.  Referrals off campus for additional support may be needed.
  • We have 24/7 telephone crisis support available through ProtoCall. Students can call (503)375-5353 at any time to access immediate crisis support.
  • In addition to Bishop counseling services, we have additional contracted telehealth counseling services with UWill.  Every student gets 240 credits every academic year, which is enough for 8 free counseling sessions.
