Announcing the seventh annual Mark and Melody Teppola Prizes for Creative Writing at Willamette University:
Thanks to a generous endowed gift from Mark and Melody Teppola, each spring we will offer prizes for outstanding student work in poetry and prose.
Winners in each category will be awarded a cash prize and will read from their winning work at an awards celebration.
First Prize – $400
Second Prize – $300
Third Prize – $200
Awards are open only to currently enrolled Willamette University students. Maximum one entry per student.
Entries will be judged blind; no name should appear on the manuscript. Winners will be selected by the following nationally-recognized, award-winning writers:
Poetry: Lorna Dee Cervantes, author of "Emplumada"
Prose (fiction and creative nonfiction): Bernard Grant, author of "Fly Back at Me"
Submit one poem, one story, or one essay (15 pages maximum) until Jan. 31. Prizes announced mid-April.
Although Mark and Melody Teppola are no longer with us, we are grateful for all they have done for Willamette. This gift to creative writing is one of many of the Teppola legacy gifts.
