Labor Day
The university will be closed on Monday, September 5, 2022, for Labor Day. No classes on this day. Goudy Commons on the Salem campus will be open for food service and Campus Safety will continue to operate 24/7 at PNCA and in Salem.
Safety
The phone number for Campus Safety is (503) 370-6911 in Salem and (503) 621-2061 in Portland. If you live in a residence hall, you can contact the RA on call for your area with concerns or questions. They can also access other professional staff resources as needed. Always carry your WU ID and room key, and lock up windows and doors when you leave. Use a buddy system to walk together in the evening. You can also call campus safety for an escort within a few block radius from campus or use the Willamette Lyft program.
Support
Know that you have our support. If you are struggling with emotional or mental health – anything from feeling homesick or anxious to other concerns – please contact a campus resource. If you live on campus talking with an RA on call may help, or if your concerns are more urgent mental health concerns, you may access a crisis counselor by calling WUTalk, serviced by ProtoCall 24/7, at (503) 375-5353. The call is free and confidential, and a student on any campus can access WUTalk. In Portland, you may also consider calling the Multnomah County Crisis Line at 503-988-4888 to be immediately connected with a mental health professional.
Student Code of Conduct
It’s important for you to understand that regardless of whether you are on or off campus, you are held accountable for expectations outlined in the Student Code of Conduct. In addition, you are held accountable to local and state laws that may carry harsher penalties than our university conduct system, which is designed to be educational.
Amnesty (found within the Student Code of Conduct)
The university’s highest priorities are the physical and mental health, safety, and well-being of all members of the community. Therefore, no student seeking medical attention by contacting either university or local authorities for intoxication (nor a student who seeks medical attention on behalf of the affected student) or who reports misconduct as a complainant or witnesses/third parties, and cooperates with and/or assists any medical, university, or law enforcement officials will be formally charged for the unlawful use or possession of alcohol or other drugs or violation of other related safety protocols.
Cannabis
Recreational marijuana is legal in the state of Oregon for those 21 and older but not allowed on campus or any campus buildings, including residence halls. You can find answers to common questions about cannabis laws in Oregon here.
Alcohol
Different bodies process alcohol differently, so be cautious if you make the decision to consume alcohol. Consider that alcohol may interact unexpectedly with medications. Drinking under the age of 21 is against Oregon law. See more about Oregon’s alcohol laws regarding minors here.
It is a reasonable and common choice to socialize without alcohol or other drugs. Show care for other members of the community by respecting their choices and looking out for one another by discouraging excessive substance use. If you are concerned about someone, please reach out for assistance.
