Transgender Day of Visibility is celebrated annually on March 31 around the world. The intent is to celebrate the accomplishments of trans and gender non-conforming people and raise awareness of the work still needed to advance gender justice. On a national level, we are seeing a rise in anti-trans legislation covering a range of areas like athletics, healthcare and education. It’s important to recognize the efforts of trans activists and allies working to combat transphobia, resource disenfranchised groups and cultivate affirming spaces. The Gender Resource & Advocacy Center encourages our Willamette community members to check out the following resources to enhance awareness and visibility on this important day:
- Know Your Rights: A Guide for Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Students by the ACLU
- As a trans or gender non-conforming person, pledge to take the 2022 U.S. Trans Survey
- Powell’s Book List for International Trans Day of Visibility
- Films and shows that center challenges as well as celebrations of trans characters
- Summary of current political trends and opportunities to support legislative advocacy
- An Ally’s Guide to Talking About Transgender Inclusive Non-Discrimination Laws
Anyone is able to make a gift to the GRAC which will directly support the B4B program, supplying gender affirming gear to trans and non-binary students, and Support Space, a weekly gathering for students wanting to discuss gender exploration.
