Connecting students and employers for career success

Claire Martin, Willamette University’s Director of Employer Engagement, is ready to connect Willamette students with companies and organizations who are looking to hire talented thinkers and leaders. The newest addition to Willamette’s innovative Career Development program, Martin will build partnerships with the region’s top employers — creating pathways for Willamette students to find success in their career journey.

For Martin, coming to Willamette was a full-circle experience. In her previous career as a corporate recruiter for technology companies like Amazon, Martin loved the chance to hire Willamette students for internships and early career roles. Now, she gets to bring her passion for mentorship to campus to help students find their dream jobs.

Martin’s hire continues the strategic expansion of Willamette’s Career Development program. Her focus will be on forging partnerships with regional employers and creating clear pathways from campus to career.

“I'm really excited to start bringing in a lot of employers that students are excited about,” Martin says. “I want to not only bring the employers here, but ensure that our talented students are able to make meaningful connections with those employers when they're here.”

Martin will help employers find qualified Willamette students and graduates to fill internships and open positions. She will also make sure students are more aware of current and future job opportunities.

Some of Martin’s plans include a revamped website for employers looking to hire Willamette students, a Willamette partner program to streamline employer recruitment efforts, and special outreach to Willamette alums who are looking to hire fellow Bearcats.

“We are thrilled to have Claire on the team. With this new role, we will foster existing relationships and build new ones,” said Anne Lapour, Executive Director of Career Initiatives. “The impact will be in the expansion of opportunities for our students, and greater visibility for Willamette throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond.”
