Laura Godly
Visiting Instructor of Legal Research and Writing
Laura Godly will be teaching Legal Research and Writing and Legal Analysis for the Bar.
Before joining Willamette, Godly clerked for the New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Fourth Department. She also provided pro-bono representation to tenants facing eviction through the Volunteer Legal Services Project of Monroe County, Inc.
She has a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and a minor in global gender studies from the University of Buffalo and a JD from the University at Buffalo School of Law.
Rohan Grey
Assistant Professor of Law
Rohan Grey’s research focuses on the legal design and regulation of money and finance, including digital fiat currency and broader issues of law and political economy. He is teaching Contracts, Business Organizations, and Securities Regulation.
Before law school, he worked as a professional musician and taught elementary and secondary school music and social studies in Sydney, Australia. Prior to entering legal academia, he practiced law in New York City at Lawyers for Children and the Children’s Law Center focusing on issues related to custody and visitation, abuse and neglect, guardianship, and foster care.
Grey earned a JD from Columbia Law School and an LLM from London School of Economics. He is currently a JSD candidate at Cornell Law School.
Jake D. Hoskins
Assistant Professor of Data Science and Marketing
Jake Hoskins comes to Willamette by way of Westminster College in Salt Lake City and Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. He has worked in the retail and banking industries as a data scientist and qualitative modeler, where he built quantitative models to leverage internal and vendor supplied data to service internal clients.
Hoskins’ academic research utilizes rigorous econometric modeling techniques on Big Data to empirically address managerially relevant questions in the topical domains of product management, retailing and online business.
He received his PhD in Business Administration from the University of Utah and earned two bachelor’s degrees from California State University, Chico.
Eric S. Roberts
Mark and Melody Teppola Presidential Distinguished Visiting Professor of Computer Science
The recipient of numerous teaching awards, Eric S. Roberts is one of the world’s leading experts in computer science education and is the only person in history to win all four of the awards given by professional societies for computer science education — most recently, the SIGCSE Award for Lifetime Service to Computer Science Education in 2018.
Roberts is currently the Charles Simonyi Professor of Computer Science, emeritus, at Stanford University. Over his 40-year teaching career, which includes founding Wellesley College's Department of Computer Science, Roberts has developed new models for teaching computer science that emphasize the intellectual excitement of the discipline and its connection to the liberal arts.
At Willamette, Roberts will focus on recruiting faculty in computing and data science, expanding interdisciplinary connections and exploring new pedagogical techniques for these unusual times.
Matthew Sazima '14
Visiting Associate Professor of Jazz, Director of the Willamette Singers
A Willamette alumnus, Matthew Sazima '14 went on to earn his BFA in Jazz Performance from California Institute of the Arts. Several of his compositions have been recognized by the International Society of Jazz Arrangers and Composers as well as by Downbeat Magazine.
Since returning to Oregon, Sazima regularly plays in Portland’s most popular venues for live music.
He is currently the academy director at Hoffman Academy, where he teaches piano and trains teachers on proper teaching techniques and strategies.
Chikaomi Takahashi
Visiting Professor of Japanese
Chikaomi Takahashi has taught Japanese language courses of all levels and a variety of Japanese and Asian culture courses at universities in Illinois and California.
Takahashi’s scholarly interests focus on cultural policies that Japan and other countries in East and Southeast Asia use for branding nations, promoting tourism and establishing new foreign markets for culture products. He also has experience in film production and was a producer in the Japanese television industry.
He earned his doctoral degree in anthropology (Japan-centric) from the University of Florida.
