In response to COVID-19, Willamette will join other Northwest Conference (NWC) schools in suspending competition, travel and practices indefinitely.
“Our student athletes work tirelessly, and we share in their loss of not being able to compete for a period of time,” said Rob Passage, director of intercollegiate athletics. “It’s especially tough for our seniors, and our hearts go out to them.”
The NWC Presidents Council agreed to suspend athletics at member schools following the NCAA’s decision to cancel all winter and spring sports championships. Both of those decisions were announced Thursday afternoon.
Willamette is taking numerous steps to limit the spread of COVID-19, including moving to distance learning beginning next week. At the moment, there are no confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 within the Willamette community.
