Operations and Supply Chain Association Informational Panel

by Ricardo Castillo MBA'20,

Second-year MBA students share with first-years their operations and supply chain internships at Nike, Our Serviceworks, and Oregon Health Authority.

On October 23, the Operations and Supply Chain Association hosted an informational panel for first-year students to learn about operations and supply chain. The panel included Associate Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management Andrew Kach, Danielle Gapsch MBA’20, Daniel Scottow MBA’20, and Zachary Schick JD/MBA’21. Professor Kach began the panel by explaining what operations and supply chain is to the first years, as they don’t take the core course until next semester. Then the second-year panelists talked about how they landed their internships, provided advice, and talked in-depth about their internship experience.

Danielle GapschSince June of this year, Danielle Gapsch MBA’20 has been working as a Supply Chain Security Analyst Intern at Nike. Danielle explained that it is important to begin looking for internships now as most companies release internship opportunities in the fall. In her role at Nike, Danielle analyzes current processes to find areas that need improvement and implements the changes. She communicates with factories and analyzes reports, resulting in faster border-crossing times and improved relations.

This past summer, Daniel Scottow MBA’20 worked as a Warehouse Operations Intern at Our Serviceworks, a company that provides on brand-focused outsourced fulfillment and customer care services. Daniel prepared for his interview by researching and networking and applying his mock interview experience. Through his summer internship Daniel was able to gain experience in warehouse management and operations, logistics, and fulfillment from various company clients, each with its own different supply chain. He gained an understanding of warehouse logistical working including shipment placement, order tracking, freight, and partner relationship management.

Zachary SchickZachary Schick JD/MBA’21 worked as a research analyst for the Oregon Health Authority where he was exposed to operational work. During his internship, Zachary led a project that assessed the integrity of Oregon's medical supply chain. He identified critical supplies needed during emergencies and offered strategies to mitigate potential shortfalls.

The panelists provided great insight into their internship experience and gave invaluable advice on how to prepare for internship interviews.
