Spirited dancing, vivid regalia and colorful beadwork brightened Cone Fieldhouse on Saturday during Willamette University’s annual Social Pow wow.
For the past 17 years, the Native and Indigenous Student Union has presented the pow wow, which is sponsored by the Native American Advisory Council, the Office of Multicultural Affairs and Associated Students of Willamette University.
Students, staff, faculty and community members — including representatives from tribes throughout Oregon and Washington — gathered to take part in the food, songs and arts and crafts that represent the culture of Native Americans from western Tribal Nations.
For many attendees, the pow wow is an important place to regularly reunite with family and friends and share traditions with generations of tribe members.
CCTV will broadcast the complete program on Comcast channel 22/322HD multiple times between March 30 and April 8.
