Its work to serve students and the public good has landed Willamette University among the top schools lauded in two national college guides.
Willamette appears at No. 22 on Princeton Review’s 2017 list of the Top 25 Schools Making an Impact and at No. 6 in a service category of Washington Monthly’s 2016 College Guide and Rankings.
Princeton Review’s 2017 edition of “Colleges That Pay You Back: The 200 Schools That Give You the Best Bang for Your Tuition Buck” recommends schools it considers the nation’s best for academics, affordability and career prospects.
Willamette’s ranking on the book’s “Impact” list is based on student rating and responses to survey questions about community service opportunities, student government, sustainability efforts and on-campus student engagement. Princeton Review editors collected data from 650 schools and also took into account PayScale’s percentage of alumni who reported having high job meaning.
Students who completed the survey referred to Willamette’s “great [sense of] community” and noted that “a typical student is excited to learn, explore and be an active participant within the community.”
Washington Monthly’s 2016 College Guide and Rankings rates schools based on their contribution to the public good in three categories: social mobility, research and service. In terms of service, Willamette ranked No. 6 out of the 239 national liberal arts colleges featured.
