A full symphony, a choral ensemble and a pair of pianists from Willamette University will present audiences with a musical form of Shakespeare Nov. 6 they may not have quite heard before.
From Verdi to “West Side Story,” the concert at Hudson Hall offers listeners a taste of works Shakespeare has inspired over the centuries, touching on opera, ballet, musical theater and other genres. One concert highlight is a double piano concerto by Mozart performed by pianists Crystal Zimmerman of Willamette and Asya Gulua of Portland State University. The concert starts at 3 p.m.
Hector Aguero, conductor of the University Chamber Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, said audiences can expect a program that is larger in scale and scope than usual.
“This concert promises an enchantment to the ears, from the joyous to the sublime and everything in-between,” he said.
The concert is a new collaboration between the university’s theatre and music departments, which this year established a Shakespearean theme for its performances.
Tickets cost $5-$10. For more information, contact the Theatre Department at 503-370-6221 or buy online here.
