Assistant professor named Kavli Fellow

Katja Meyer, assistant professor of environmental and Earth sciences at Willamette University, was named a Kavli Fellow and attended Kavli Frontiers of Science Indonesian-American Symposium in Malang, Indonesia, Aug. 1–4.

Sponsored by the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and The Kavli Foundation, the interdisciplinary symposium gathers leading scientists younger than 45 years of age to discuss research and advances in their fields.

A geologist, Meyer is interested in the interaction between life, the climate and the geochemical environment. She presented during the symposium’s session on mass extinctions and citizen science.

Meyer has a BA in geology from Carleton College and a PhD in geosciences and biogeochemistry from Penn State.
