In Willamette University’s Rogers Music Center on April 12 at 7:30 p.m., the Theo Bleckmann and Ben Monder Duo will perform its critically acclaimed fusion of jazz, classical, ambient music and rock as part of Willamette’s Grace Goudy Distinguished Artists Series.
Both artists are acclaimed individually, with the duo’s performances earning high praise from music critics.
Of the pair, DownBeat Magazine writes, “Rarely have such individual musicians sounded so single-minded.” All About Jazz described the duo’s performance as “a searing interplay between Theo Bleckmann and Ben Monder — either they rehearsed this passage for months, or they have developed a familial telepathy from their years of collaboration.”
“Theo and Ben are two of the most l versatile and accomplished musicians I've ever encountered in any genre – not just jazz,” says James Miley, an associate professor of music at Willamette and director of the Willamette Jazz Collective. “The sheer depth and density of the music they create together, seemingly without effort, is an extraordinary symphony of sound unlike anything you've heard before.”
