Elize Manoukian ’16 has been selected for a paid, 10-week reporting internship at The Gresham Outlook newspaper this summer.
Manoukian, editor of Willamette’s Collegian student newspaper, was one of 19 college journalists chosen for the statewide Charles Snowden Journalism Internship Program. This year, 50 students from 10 colleges applied.
“I’m grateful for the experience to work in a real newsroom again,” says Manoukian, who has also interned for her hometown newspaper in Palo Alto, California. “It’s such a vibrant work environment, where so much happens so quickly.”
Manoukian, a politics major, has worked periodically for the Collegian since the spring of 2013, as a designer, writer and editor. Her ultimate goal is a career as a book or magazine editor.
Through the internship, Manoukian will receive stipends totaling $5,400, awarded by The Gresham Outlook and the Snowden program, sponsored by the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication.
