It’s about to become much easier to buy parking permits, schedule meeting space and submit work orders — thanks to the creation of the new Service Center.
Located in the Executive Building on Ferry Street (across Winter Street), the center will consist of Campus Safety, Facilities Management, and Scheduling, Events and Conferences. These departments will operate out of a newly renovated and shared space by late March.
The merger is designed to create one-stop shopping for staff, faculty and students, who will have only to call one number or go to one place to fulfill their service requests.
For the next few weeks, the three departments’ employees will be cross-trained on software systems. Effective March 28, extended weekday operating hours mean switchboard operators will take phone calls from 7:30 a.m. to midnight, and the Service Center will remain open from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
In its new location, Campus Safety will remain easily accessible to Willamette community members.
The creation of the Service Center was precipitated by changes planned at Doney, which is being converted to a residence hall this summer. As a result, Housing and Community Life relocated to the second floor of the University Center on March 11, Campus Safety is moving to the Executive Building during spring break, and Web Development and various WITS staff are relocating to 180 Church St. by March 24.
