Ballet, aerial dance, musical theatre and more await viewers of “Evolution: Dance Concert,” opening at Willamette University Nov. 12.
Artistic Director Jessi Fouts says this year’s concert promises something for every palate. Faculty members are introducing innovative pieces, and students are taking part in everything from choreography and lighting design to composing and performing music.
“There is a plethora of talent in our community, and ‘Evolution’ unites it all in a single show,” Fouts says. “The level of commitment each artist brings to the production is truly inspiring.”
This year’s dance concert builds upon the last two — “Beginnings” and “Veracity.” The first introduced a new era of dance to campus, and the second aimed to inspire growth and authenticity among the participants.
Now, with “Evolution,” the dancers’ forward momentum is captured, featuring themes of growth and transformation.
“This concert aims to develop thought-provoking movement for viewers to consider,” Fouts says. “They’ll leave the concert with an appreciation for the ways in which the body can express and exude emotions.”
