Symeonides earns a Lifetime Achievement Award

by Marketing & Communications,

Professor Symeon Symeonides was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Society of Comparative Law “in recognition of the extraordinary contributions his scholarship and teaching have made to the development of the law of Conflict of Laws.”

Founded in 1951, the society is an association of more than 100 American and foreign law schools and research institutions. It is considered the preeminent comparative law organization in the world.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is the society’s highest distinction. Only seven scholars have previously received this award: Arthur von Mehren (Harvard), John Merryman (Stanford), Eric Stein (Michigan), Mirjan Damaška (Yale), Alan Watson (Georgia), Jerome Cohen (NYU), and Richard Buxbaum (Berkeley).

Symeonides received the award on Oct. 2, 2015, during the society’s annual meeting in Dallas, Texas. Speaking on behalf of the Society, Willamette professor James Nafziger lauded the honoree’s scholarly work and record of achievement.
