History professor Seth Cotlar has won two grants to support his yearlong sabbatical and work this summer on his book, "When the Olden Days Were New: A Cultural History of Nostalgia in Modernizing America, 1776-1860."
The first award comes from the American Antiquarian Society, and it will allow Cotlar to spend a month at the Center for Historical American Visual Culture in Worcester, Massachusetts.
The second award, from the Newberry Library in Chicago, will support a month of research in the Newberry's extensive collections related to Western North America and Native American History.
