Willamette ranks high for LGBTQ-inclusive efforts

by Marketing & Communications,

Willamette University stands among 10 universities nationwide recognized for living up to LGBTQ-inclusive values.

Campus Pride — a national nonprofit working to create a safer college environment for LGBTQ students — recently named Willamette on its 2021 Campus Pride Index list of religious-affiliated universities engaged in positive policy, programs and practices for youth.

The Campus Pride Index, which includes more than 435 religious and non-religious-affiliated campuses, evaluates universities based on eight categories including policy inclusion, institutional commitment and campus safety.

Based on a maximum 5 star rating, Willamette received 4.5 stars for its non-discrimination statements, gender identity policies for university documents and actively recruiting visible, out LGBTQ faculty and staff, among other efforts. The Index highlighted Willamette’s Gender Resource & Advocacy Center as well as its Queer Trans People of Color and Rainbow Alliance student organizations.
